The Lost Shores: phase 1, update

Nov 18 2012

Hi everyone,

We have now identified and applied fixes for the reported bugs related to the Lost Shores phase 1. This includes events for the NPCs Canach and Fahd al’Eshadhi, but not for Noll who is still bugged. We’ve also fixed the bugs of Miyani sending multiple emails, Blingg’s voice over being spammed, the Largos dynamic events and a few other bugs.

We’ve identified the fix for Noll’s event but this fix will require additional time to implement. Because of this we’re going to leave the Phase 1 dynamic events (investigation of the Karka attacks) open even after Phase 2 starts (Saturday November 17 at 12pm Pacific Time), which will allow us to push a fix for Noll’s dynamic event later so that players can complete phase 1 of The Lost Shores event.

This change in the organization of the event means that:

  • To complete Phase 1, you have to complete the dynamic event chain leading to Noll before Saturday November 17 at 12pm Pacific Time; you will be able to complete the dynamic events after Noll once we’ve pushed the fix; you can refer to the "wiki article about Phase ":http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores/Phase_1> for more information;
  • Some NPCs (primarily Canach and Inspector Ellen Kiel) will be duplicated for phases 2 and 3, and may appear simultaneously in Lion’s Arch and in Southsun Cove.

We’re very sorry about this and hope that you can continue to experience The Lost Shores and help us retake Lion’s Arch and repel the Karkas!

The Lost Shores Update

Something is stirring in the Sea of Sorrows. Ship wreckage is washing up on shore, whales are beaching themselves, local quaggans are leaving their undersea homes, and strange new creatures are being spotted along the Tyrian coast.
Head Researcher Levvi has been pleading with Captain Magnus, leader of the Lionguard, to heed her warnings of imminent danger to the city of Lion’s Arch and other coastal settlements. Magnus remains unconvinced, though the disruption of maritime trade has the Ship’s Council concerned.
Something new is coming ashore in Lion’s Arch at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, November 16. This epic event will change that city forever, even as it introduces an entirely new twist on dungeon play. Come to the defense of Lion’s Arch and race to discover the secret behind a mysterious new menace.
At 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday, November 17, the second phase of this epic adventure will take players to a place they’ve never been in Tyria, where they’ll meet a new pet creature and discover previously unknown crafting resources that unlock new recipes and a unique way to upgrade gear.
Join us at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Sunday, November 18 for your chance to take part in an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime final event!

New content: when & where

Nov 16 2012

This weekend, four new things come to GW2. I made this post to give the info all in one place…

1. The new PvP map.
This map opened on Thursday 11/15.

2. 3 one-time events.
- There will be 3 seperate one-time events.
- You can do the second or third event without doing the first or second.
- You will be scaled to level 80 for these events (like for the Mad King events).
- All events start in the Lion’s Court in Lion’s Arch, at the big yellow star.

- 1st event was Friday noon 11/16 (finished, we had to kill lots of medium crabs, big crabs and huge crabs and deliver their meat to a collector).
- 2nd event is Saterday noon 11/17 (12:00 PST, 21:00 CET).
- 3rd event is Sunday noon 11/18 (12:00 PST, 21:00 CET).

The timing of the events were chosen because this were the times that there were the most people online together.

3. The new PvE map.
- The new PvE map called Southsun Cove is for level 80 characters.
- It will open after the second event, on Saterday.
- You can go there by talking to a new NPC near the Sanctum Harbor Waypoint in Lion’s Arch, by the new POI Macha’s Landing.

4. The new PvE dungeon.
- The new PvE dungeon called Fractals of the Mist is for level 80 characters.
- This dungeon opened on Friday 11/16 at 12:30 (but was bugged for some, fixed at 13:30).
- You can go there by going into the new Asuran Portal near the Island Portage Waypoint in Lion’s Arch, by the new POI Consortium’s Gift Shop.

Leah Rivera on the New Fractals of the Mist Dungeon

Nov 15 2012

My team has a mission.

A mission to bring all of you an awesome, high-end dungeon experience that will be challenging, rewarding, and a ton of fun! After a lot of long hours and hard work, I think we’ve accomplished that goal. I’m proud to introduce to you our new dungeon: Fractals of the Mists!

This dungeon is unlike anything you’ve played in Guild Wars 2. It’s built of an array of mini-dungeons, which we call fractals. These fractals are slices of the Mists, fragments of time that have been stabilized by the intrepid asura researcher Dessa. Some of these vignettes from history may be familiar to original Guild Wars players, while others will represent previously unseen events. Because of their eclectic origin, each fractal is built as a distinct, separate experience with themes, mechanics, and art specific to that fractal.

You access the Fractals of the Mist by gathering your party of five in Lion’s Arch and entering a new asura gate (seen below).

Unlike the other dungeons, your party can be any level. We’ve employed World vs. World-style sidekicking to make this dungeon accessible to all players. But keep in mind, our aim was to challenge level 80 players. Going in at low levels is not for the faint of heart!

Once you enter the portal you’ll be taken to the Mistlock Observatory, a safe haven created by Dessa within the Mists. From there you’ll start your first round of fractals. You’ll be sent to three randomly chosen destinations and once you’ve vanquished all three of these fractals, you’ll be brought back to the Mistlock Observatory hub to rest and regroup. On top of that, every other round before you return to the hub you’ll be faced with a bonus “boss fractal.” Here, you will face an encounter akin to our big world bosses!

Seems simple, right? Well, there’s one last mechanic that makes this dungeon unique.

To make Fractals of the Mist even more challenging, every time you re-visit the hub, the dungeon scales up in difficulty. That’s right, a scaling dungeon! The dungeon will remember your progress, and will poll the party’s levels when you enter, scaling the dungeon to the highest common attained level. It’s a true challenge, but as you hit higher and higher scales, the dungeon will get more and more rewarding. You’ll have to have some serious skills and solid tactics to make it through these Fractals. After a certain point, our new Ascended items and Infusions become crucial tools for survival. To learn more about this new type of high-level gear, check out this postfrom designer Linsey Murdock.

We can’t wait to see you in the Mists!
